Helping us towards a carbon neutral festival

Kent Showground, Detling, Kent | 2nd-9th August 2025

The Festival Of Scouting & Guiding

About The Festival

The UK Festival of Scouting and Guiding offers unique opportunities and experiences, bringing together 6,000 young people and their leaders to have fun, be joyful, make noise, celebrate, create friendships and experience great adventures. The sheer size of our festival allows participants to engage in activities and discoveries that they might not have encountered otherwise in their lives.

Our festival theme focuses on sustainability and the protection of the environment in which we live, encouraging participants to become champions of change, positively make a difference to the world they will grow up in and create a more sustainable future.

Our Festival

Festival Subcamps

Home is where your subcamp is. Your hub, for your stay at the festival, will be hosted by a team on hand to support you and ensure your time is filled with fun and friends throughout!
Enjoy, kick back and make the most of all your subcamp has to offer!

Festival Programme

With over 100 activities daily you will have plenty to do across the first five days of life at our festival. On the sixth we will be providing a festival day to celebrate the diversity and friendship our festival offers.

Festival Arena

A unique arena designed specifically for our festival to give you an experience like no other!
It will host our opening and closing celebrations as well as offering an amazing week long programme of shows and entertainment.

Festival Village

Rio is renowned for being the world's festival city. Our village 'Rio' offers a day time and evening experience, both unique and not to be missed. Discover Rio and you will discover the vibrancy of our festival

Festival Challenge

Our festival offers participants the opportunity to become more aware of the world around them. We invite them to take part in the Festival Challenge taking them through Subcamps and key discovery areas of the festival to gain our Festival Award.

Festival Families

As a family friendly festival, if the whole family wish to attend to help with a contingent or as staff, we offer a day time programme for younger family members. With both a daytime creche and junior club, those not old enough to participate won't miss out on the fun.

Festival Team

Our festival is only possible thanks to all the adult volunteers in support, whether staff or contingent leaders. Here you can find out who is co-ordinating different aspects of the festival to ensure as a team we make it as amazing as possible for all who take part.

Festival History

Our festival history begins with the Kent International Jamboree. We hope our past events give you a glimpse of what you might  expect to experience in 2025.

Festival KIST

As a member of our Kent International Service Team you can expect to enjoy our festival whether experiencing the delight on a participants face as they take part in an aspect of the festival you are delivering, making new KIST friends, or kicking back and enjoying life in our purpose built staff & leader hub.

Festival Fun Days

Five days of activities with everything you have come to expect; from throwing a tomahawk, electric carts, nerf wars, yoga, roller skating, driving experiences, funfair, field sports, jump bag, bushcraft, 4x4, archery...the list goes on

With 100's of activities daily and our evenings packed full of fun the only problem you will have is finding time to sleep.

Sustainability:

Our Theme Our Goal

Sustainable practices support ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. Sustainability presumes that resources are finite and should be used conservatively and wisely with a view to long-term priorities and consequences of the ways in which resources are used.

Our festival captures this ethos in all we do, and we are delighted to be able to promote good practice through WRAP and our Recycle Now actions.

EVERY WASTE PRODUCT leaving our site from lost property to left over food will be recycled.

We are delighted to be working with Countrystyle Recycling to help our journey in becoming a carbon neutral festival.

Please take the time to discover how, with our partners, we hope to make our ambition reality.

Our Journey to Become Carbon Neutral

Our journey begins with you. We invite you to join us in our commitment to responsible practices, aiming to reduce our festival's carbon footprint whenever and wherever possible. Please explore our journey capture tool to learn more. It's estimated that our festival could generate 100 tonnes of carbon emissions.

While there's no single answer to our impact on the world, collectively, we can take action to minimise our footprint on the planet.

We're excited to announce our partnership with Treeapp, a leading tree-planting organization in the UK. We encourage all of you to participate in this initiative, which supports communities in Tanzania and aligns with several Scouting for SDG's goals. Treeapp's projects focus on woodland restoration, rehabilitating species at risk of extinction, enhancing biodiversity, and creating employment opportunities for local communities.

In the near future, thousands of trees will be planted in the Usambara Mountains in northern Tanzania. This initiative aims to restore the native tree population in Terrestrial and Inland Waters Protected Areas. The Usambara Mountains are particularly vital in Treeapp's efforts, as they play a crucial role in providing water supply and hydropower to local communities in Tanzania.

"The festival of Scouting and Guidings' commitment to reducing their environmental impact aligns perfectly with Treeapp's mission to restore and protect our planet's vital ecosystems. We're thrilled to partner with The Festival on this journey towards sustainability. Recognising the importance of addressing environmental concerns within the event industry, The Festival sets a commendable example of responsible stewardship. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for our planet."
